International English language Testing System or IELTS is an examination which is very popular in countries like Canada, United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. It is an exam which is conducted to test the non-native English speaker’s ability and their proficiency in the English language. It is a very popular test which is accepted in most of the universities and professional entities as a benchmark and criteria that the candidate is able to speak in the English language proficiently.

Ranking System in International English language Testing System or IELTS

The paper of IELTS examination is set by the experts in the language and the scores in the paper is allotted in terms of band, which ranges from o to 9 Band. In which the O band is given a highly incompetent candidate and 9 band is allotted to an expert in the language. A score of 6 is considered competent enough in the test. The testing parameters for IELTS are four- Reading, listening, speaking and writing. For a good IELTS score it is important that the candidate scores competent marks in each category. The final band is calculated after taking out the average bands in each category.

E.g.: If a candidate score 6 in Reading, 5 in listening, 5 in speaking and 6 in writing then the average IELTS score of the candidate will be –

6 + 5+ 5+ 6 = 22 /4 = 5.4 band

The Score of IELTS is valid for a two-year period from the date of appearing in the examination.

Format of the International English language Testing System or IELTS

The total time of the examination is 2 hours and 45 minutes and three sections needs to be conducted in that time. The test of speaking happens in the next section which can happen the following day or the any other day of the week. There are two types of IELTS examination – Academic and General Testing. Depending on the purpose of undertaking the test the type of test is undertaken by the candidate. Also, the listening and speaking areas are same in both the categories but the subject matter for reading and writing changes as per the category chosen by the candidate.
